The Dental Implant Process

Assessing the Teeth and Planning a Mode of Treatment

At the first dental appointment, discuss a treatment plan as per your needs. The dentist will assess for the implant treatment and take X-rays.

Bone Grafting and Removal of Teeth

If bone grafting is required, it takes 4 to 12 months before the jaw is completely ready for the implant. Bone grafting helps in healing the bone before the dental implant is placed.

Placing the Implant and Healing Process

The dentist will give local anaesthesia or sedatives. They will view the underlying bone and if required then go for the bone regeneration. This can be done before or at the same time as the implant. The entire process takes almost 2 hours.

The Integration Period

The implants take 6 weeks to 6 months for fusing with the patient’s bone. You may be needed to wear dentures during this time.

The Restorative Process

The implants can be in function with so many options such as crowns, removable dentures, bridges and more.

Placing a Collar or a Temporary Crown

The dentist will place the healing collar on the implant for further gum healing. This comes in round shape made of metal.

Placing the Abutment

The abutment is screwed into the implants for support of the crowns. The dentist will take an impression of replacing the teeth. Until permanent is made, you will need to wear a temporary crown.

The Permanent Crown

This is the final stage of the when crown is placed by screwing it into the abutment or cementing in place.

Dental Implant-Post Op Symptoms

If you experience swelling or minimal bleeding after the implant has been placed, don’t panic. This will heal in a few days.

Implant Care and Maintaining that Beautiful Smile

The implants require regular care just as your normal teeth. Brush your teeth twice a day and floss once every day. Visit the dentist 2 times in a year for regular check-ups.
